An Artful Blog

Hello and welcome to my “artful blog”.  My paintings consist of loose lines and plenty of watercolor paint! I have a variety of styles, from whimsical to “serious”, depending on my mood for the day. I will be posting here as often as possible.

Be sure to add your email to my newsletter list so you can receive my posts directly. You can do that in the “contact” section.

Art is a wonderful gift, and I am grateful to be able to participate and share that gift with you.  Let’s take this journey together.  I bet we both learn something along the way.

Viva el Alamo!

I’m working on a painting of the Alamo.  Before I paint it however, I wanted to do a quick digital sketch, which means I used my awesome tablet and stylus to sketch it out in Photoshop. Sketching in a digital format is sometimes quicker and less intimidating than sketching on paper. For one thing, mistakes …

About

My training and education are in music, specifically vocal arts.   But the visual arts fascinate me also, especially watercolor painting.

Originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, I began my artistic career as an opera singer and on the concert stage.  I have lived in many countries and have been influenced by the cultures of Europe and South America. Music and art are part of my soul.  I can’t imagine life without them.

In this phase of my life, I am drawn to watercolor painting.  My husband and I are living in south Texas now, and that means that I am close to the Mexican culture, with all of their bright colors and vivacious music.  It is a beautiful place in the midst of fascinating people.  I reflect the culture in my paintings, as you will see in the gallery.

Artsy Links

This page will feature links to other artists that I admire, as well as news items of note.

I love this Canadian artist Nora MacPhail and have been following her for a long time..  Check out her website at: http://noramacphail.blogspot.com/  Her loose, splashy style speaks to me in a big way. Maybe I’ll be able to paint like this when I grow up.

I would be remiss if I did not include this artist.  Peter Sheeler has had the greatest influence on my art to date.  He is a master of the line and wash technique, which I dearly love.  He is extremely generous with his teaching and sharing of technique.
